Kelime Anlamı, insanların bilinmeyen bir zaman içersinde geleceğe enkdesli planlanan ve bu dönemde çözülmek üzere dondurulması işlemi olan cryonics terimi, ilk olarak 1965 yılında litaratürde kendine yer buldu. Ancak ilk kez Neil R. Jones 1930’larda yazdığı bir romanda insanların dondurulmasından bahsediyordu.
